Blogger Interview: Paulina´s life and style in Napa Valley

My first thought when I saw Paulina´s blog was  – Wow, such a nice style! And second – Wow, such unique and interesting name of blog! And third – How she came to that idea?

Incorporating her tradition and Polish roots with her modern American life, Paulina, writer and fashion blogger living in Napa Valley made SHENSKA – her own, unique and creative corner of the internet representing her style and living! Shenska is combination of two words SHENANIGANS AND SZCZEPANSKA, and lot of style, positive vibes and inspiration. We had a little chat with Paulina in order to share with you her blogger experience and ideas!

When did you start blogging and how did you come to the idea?

I officially started blogging in 2013, but decided to rebrand years down the road and that’s how Shenska came to be. The reason why I decided to give my all into blogging in the first place was because I always loved documenting and sharing my experiences, especially through photography. Starting a blog was the most logical outlet for me to do so.

Who is your style icon? Why?

I love anything that has to do with Shay Mitchell, Kristin Cavallari, Margot Robbie and Julie Sariñana of Sincerely Jules.

How do you describe your personal style? What are your inspirations?

I like to describe my style as California casual. I’m all about comfortable pieces that flatter my body type the most. When it comes to fashion, I’m inspired by what I see on the streets and not as much runways. Of course, the media and Internet (Pinterest, anyone?) are always a big source of inspiration as well!

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

A good pair of jeans, a faux leather moto jacket, a wrap or other well-fitted dress (bodycon), and comfortable shoes with some height (preferably booties). If you follow me or read my blog, you’ll notice that I love to wear these things A LOT!

How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?

I aim to post at least once/twice a week on the blog, 5-6 times on Instagram. I believe staying consistent is crucial to growing your brand and readership. However, life happens so I tend to take breaks whenever I feel uninspired or overwhelmed.
When it comes to my content calendar, I always keep a list of things to blog about. I love listening to my audience as well as they are the best at guiding my next step. Other than that, I try to pay attention to seasons/ holidays/ events to stay up to date with relevant content.

What would you describe the biggest challenge in fashion blogging?

Just like any other business, blogging has many challenges. For example, it’s not an easy task to stand tall among such big saturation in the fashion industry, especially when comparison is an easy thing to do. I would lie if I said I never felt discouraged that my blog may not be reaching as many viewers as others seem to accomplish. However, I’m proud of staying in my own lane and focusing on being authentic to my brand, first and foremost.

What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?

Having a creative outlet is something I can’t imagine my life without at this point. I blog because it makes me feel free, fulfilled and for the most part – understood. Every connection I make through blogging, whether it’s somebody who is inspired to buy by what I feature or a brand that aligns with my vision, is not taken for granted.

A fashion rule you never break?

I never wear clothes that simply don’t flatter my body type – no matter how trendy they may be at the moment. Since I’m petite with a defined waist and curves, I try not to wear clothes that are too loose or have a drop waist.

What do you splurge on?

I’m the biggest bargain shoppers you’ll meet, but on those rare times when I do splurge it’s when I shop for products I’ll use every single day. My biggest splurge up to date will probably be my YSL wallet – even though it cost a bunch, I still looked for a bargain and was able to save some money on it! 😉
With that being said, I don’t tend to splurge on clothes but I have no problem spending more money on good skincare products or perfumes.

From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?

I expect to see a lot of transparent pieces, fun layering and even more satin! Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if denim came up with some funky details as well.

Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?

I do make money from my blog, however, it’s not my main source of income. I believe in only accepting those partnerships that are a good fit for my brand, because I can easily predict what my audience will like to see. My advice is to not be afraid to say no to the opportunities that won’t benefit you or your brand. It’s truly the best investment you can make in a long run.

What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?

My most successful blog post was about Photography 101. It included my tips, hacks and everything in between I learned along the way to get the best photos possible. You can read it here:

How do you see your blog in 5 years?

On a business level, I would love to take Shenska to places that so far, I could only have dreamt of. My biggest dream is to expand my team and work along people who inspire me to be better on daily basis. I would love nothing more than to create and share a success with friends who are just as passionate about this creative industry.

Is there anything that you want to share with us which was not included in the list?

To all those who think of starting a blog, I say: JUST DO IT. Even though it may not be perfect or easy in the beginning (in about 4 years I changed my blog design 5 times), it will grow WITH you and always be there FOR you. Also, the connections and friendships you’ll make along the way will be the sweetest icing on the cake.
