Blogger Interview: Ashley White of Le Stylo Rouge

Meet Ashley, the content strategist from Kansas City. Ashley is a fashion superhero, making her fashionable dreams come true since 2010. Her little fashion corner Le Stylo Rouge is a big playground of inspiration, creativity and hard work. Let´s take a look on our little chat with this amazing fashion blogger and see a fashion world & trends through her pair of classic Ray-Ban aviators! Enjoy!

When did you start blogging and how did you come to the idea?

I launched Le Stylo Rouge in early 2010- been in the game a while now! I got the idea after some prodding from my boss; she kept saying, “You’re a writer and you have style- you should be sharing this information with people!” And LSR was born.

Who is your style icon? Why?

It’s tough to choose- I’m inspired by so many. Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Nicole Richie- I’m all about anyone with a really good street style game.

How do you describe your personal style? What are your inspirations?

I describe my personal style as a tough spin on the classics. If I can add a little edge to a look, I do it. I’m inspired by pop culture, what’s coming down the runways, what the street styles stars + my fellow bloggers are wearing- everything! I like to use all that inspiration to inject a little interest into my wardrobe every season; mix it up, play with different trends, while still keeping these generally classic and wearable.

What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?

A leather motorcycle jacket. A good over-the-knee suede boot. A solid pair of Spanx leggings (the leather-look leggings are life-changing). Several pairs of sturdy ankle booties. A classic pointed toe black pump. A pair of higher-rise classic rinse skinny jeans. A slouchy boyfriend blazer with a strong shoulder. You can build an entire wardrobe around those essentials.

How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?

I post on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the occasional weekend post thrown in. I mainly blog outfits I’m loving: pieces I can’t live without, new items in the wardrobe as seasons roll over, what’s trending, etc., but there’s also a good dose of beauty + wellness content. My audience is interested in my hair (going blonde has been a journey!), what skin care regimen I follow, and what’s in my makeup bag.

What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?

When someone sees an outfit you put together and it inspires them to step out of their comfort zone and try it out, also. I love those emails/messages where someone says, “I never thought I could wear x, but then I saw you wearing it, so I bought it- and I LOVE IT!” If I can help make outfitting easier + more fun, I’m happy.

A fashion rule you never break?

I don’t always play by the rules, and I think the fashion rules in general evolve. I try to keep an open mind!

What do you splurge on?

Shoes, always. And good skin care products.

From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?

The utilitarian looks that came down the S/S 2018 Prada runway have me really excited. I can’t wait to see how this trickles down to commercial + fast-fashion retailers.

Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?

I do make money- enough to need to claim it on taxes, but not enough to leave my 9-5 gig (it’s all about balance!). I reinvest it: it either goes toward maintaining my site, or investing in new camera lenses, wardrobe pieces, design fees, etc. My advice is to never do something (a collab, partnership, etc.) just for the money. Yes, get paid for the work you do and the content you create. But do not say yes to something just because you get something for free or the brand is going to cut you a check- the partnership has to fit your brand + aesthetic (and make sense for your audience) first!

What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?

My most successful post to date has been a post I shared on my favorite MAC lip products and when/where I wear ’em. I’m a total makeup junkie, and have been a MAC girl for ages. This post showed me how my audience was hungry for more beauty content from me.

How do you see your blog in 5 years?

This is a great question. I’d love to continue to grow and build my audience. I’d love to inspire as many people as possible, and show ’em fashion doesn’t have to be intimidating. I just launched my YouTube channel, so I’d love to see that video aspect grow and fully sketch out my blog’s presence on the web.

Is there anything that you want to share with us which was not included in the list?

Fashion should be fun- and while it’s a career for many people, that doesn’t mean you have to take it so seriously. Take risks, have fun, play around!
